Meli’sa Morgan was born in New York City, grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, and she began studying piano at age four. During high school she began singing with local choirs, and was soon performing with vocal groups across the country and abroad. She embarked on a seven-country tour of Europe in 1996 with the U.S. Youth Chorale. She began to hone her style as a bluesy, jazzy soul goddess, making us feel everything from romance, to pain and pleasure, all at once. Her talent and claim to fame was recognized with numerous awards, including three gold cups in the New Jersey Federation of Music solo piano competition.
In 1998, Morgan entered SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music and excelled rapidly. While attending Purchase, this melodic songstress appeared with the conservatory’s jazz and Latin jazz orchestras and, was featured a vocalist with the Purchase Jazz Band on a tour of Spain in 1999. In May 2002, Meli’sa received a degree in jazz vocal performance.
She has been a regular performer at some of New York’s top jazz rooms, such as Cleopatra’s Needle, Flute, G Bar, Smoke and St. Nick’s Pub. We have made love ,cried and laughed to some of her hits such as “Do Me Baby,” “Do You Still love me,” and “Fools paradise.” This beautiful songbird’s music Is still in rotation on our airwaves and we will always be tuning in to listen. Meli’sa Morgan was featured in performances with Jon Faddis and the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars at the Blue Note in New York.
The song that is her phenomenal musical career could go on forever, but we end on this note: We are so humbled and so very proud to honor this incredible woman.
